My very own website!!! Yikes!

Home learning week 8

We are still ploughing on with our schedule to keep some semblance of normality, but the kids are increasingly disengaged with learning. I can understand that they are home with all their toys so learning is the last thing on their mind.
Work for me has been reasonably busy this week following the government announcement that schools should partially reopen on 1st June. My own children are not affected although Zach has been offered a place at preschool which I have declined.
Here is this week’s plan versus the reality

I let Matthew choose this week’s topic to try to increase his engagement with work. Obviously he wanted dinosaurs but I angled it towards the actual curriculum! Finding out about the fossilsation process:

Project 8: fossils and evolution
OK so this project was really a big fail as Matthew knows EVERYTHING and Anya was feeling a bit like a dunce in comparison. For the sake of peace and harmony, we went out on a long walk trying to find the cows near our river but had to make do with more ducklings.
I also took the opportunity to get them to preactise tying shoelaces again, to reinforce the skill they learned way back in weeks 3 and 4.

FRIDAY

9-9.30
PE with Joe
9.30-10
Break

Spanish: lessons from Oak National Academy
We completed two lessons: alphabet, numbers and greetings, including giving your name and age. I really enjoyed these lessons and hope that the Oak Academy will add more langauges soon

Spain: geography, history, music, food
I wanted the children to do more written work so I asked them to write about life in lockdown. It was sooooo much effort for them but they managed a paragraph each.
Not strictly part of home learnng but reading and listening are important skills and an essential part of our bedtime routine.

  1. I’m finding my twins’ motivation getting less for home learning too – as well as mine to be fair! They’re only four but they’re talking a lot more about school, when they can go back etc. Such a long time for them all! #stayclassymama

  2. Now I just laugh whenever you say PE with Joe…is it for them or for you? 😉 Just like real classrooms, it doesn’t always work for everyone. But that’s okay – that’s ALSO part of learning. #StayClassyMama

  3. Such a great schedule. I find that at this time of year, the kids at school lose focus, they’re tired and it’s hot. So it’s not surprising that they’re losing focus after 9 weeks at home. It’s always hard to do school work when it’s lovely and sunny.
Keep going with it. They’ll pick up soon. #StayClassyMama

  4. Your schedule is great and you are doing so much with them. My son also loves anything dinosaur and fossil related. He also isn’t keen on writing work, that pic made me life. #stayclassymama
